Not only the popular Czech puppet Hurvínek or Werich’s wise Zdenička (Queen Scooter the First), but also writer Josef Čapek or former President Václav Havel were scooter fans. Moreover, the Czech Republic ranks among the world’s biggest producers of scooters for adults. The producers follow the rich tradition, which Jakub Bostl tries to explore and describe. His collection comprises 50 models and he would like to build a museum for these vehicles in future.
He found the first scooter for his collection in a civic amenity and recycling centre three years ago. “It was a beautiful piece; leaving it at the garbage dump would have been a huge mistake. It had rubber wheels, the same that prams used to have. It was probably made in the legendary factory TDV Duchcov, which used to produce prams and other vehicles for children.”
An Ordinary Story of an Absolutely Extraordinary Scooter

The unique single-track vehicle, whose engine were both my feet taking turns for a long period of time, produced by comrades from the Deutsche Demokratische Republik (DDR), probably in the town of Sangerhausen, in a factory with a quite long history. The first bicycle was produced there in 1907. It was there that my reliable, steady, red scooter was born (around 1973). Read more.

Jakub Bostl, chief constructor of the Yedoo brand, acquired other models in various ways. Some of them were given to him by his friends; he bought others on the internet. However, he made the greatest discovery in the kindergarten in Příbram, which his two small sons attend. “I offered them to enrich their fleet of scooters by our scooters and to provide maintenance and repairs. The custodian of the kindergarten then showed their scooters to me. She said that they had been stored there for almost 30 years. It was a wonderful find and an absolute treasure. Most of them were completely immobile, since the spare parts are no longer available, that is why I purchased them for the museum,“ Bostl explains.

“I love old cars; I admire the Škoda Auto Museum in Mladá Boleslav. I would like to build something similar for scooters in future. For me, a developer, historical items are a source of inspiration. Some of their technical details, such as lever-operated front brake or the spring loading of the front wheel, are absolutely unique.

“My collection comprises scooters of German, Czech, as well as Russian origin. I am planning to add also the Yedoo scooter prototypes, which weren’t mass produced, to the collection, for example the Yedoo Cheese scooter, which we used for testing the resistance and stability of the frame. And also my balance bike, which I used to ride when I was a small boy. Actually, it was a bike without pedals, which my dad found at a rubbish dump. I had a great fun with it. These unforgettable experiences serve to me as a huge source of inspiration and motivation to pursue other goals.”
Scooters Will Present Themselves In Pilsen In Summer
A part of Jakub Bostl’s collection will be displayed in the museum in Pilsen during the Lively Street summer festival. You will also have the opportunity to take a ride on the scooters in Pilsen, since the Yedoo scooters became the official partner of the Lively Street festival. Yedoo will bring 50 scooters from the brand new collection of scooters for adults to Pilsen. Balance bikes as well as children’s scooters will also be available there.
The scooter rental shop will be located at the náměstí Republiky square, right next to the Republika Stage. You can borrow Yedoo scooters for children and adults free of charge, namely from Monday 11 August to Sunday 17 August between 2pm and 7.30pm. You will need your identity card and a refundable deposit of CZK 1,000 to borrow a scooter.
